Significance & History Of Sita Ashtami
The Story Of Raja Janak
As per the sacred beliefs and texts, it is said that Goddess Sita was born from the sacrificial land of King Janak of Mithila. King Janak organized a यज्ञ to gain a son but once King Janak was plowing the field, she found a girl.
He accepted the girl child as his daughter. Sita Mata was named Janaki as she was the daughter of Raja Janak but later on, she was given the name Sita and also भूमिपुत्री because she was found in the furrow.
Janaki Jayanti Ancient Story
The story revolves around a Brahman’s wife, who is from the Marwari region. She was born as a चंदेल due to her bad karmas in the past birth. She also ditched her husband in the current birth. Performing these despicable and mean deeds, the woman had to suffer from pain and suffering like blindness, which caused her physical and mental pains. It’s because of her evil deeds; she roamed here and there.
On the days of नवमी of शुक्ल पक्ष in Vaishakh, she did not get any food to eat. So she went to the nearby Janaki temple and begged for food. The Brahmans refused to provide her with food, but she requested the food from them, saying that she was feeling hungry to the point of death. Watching this, one priest gave her a basil leaf and the Charanamrit of God.
Though she was unaware of it, she took it and observed the Janaki Navami उपवास that day that would help her remove all sins after her death and ultimately, attain salvation from life.
