Lord Ganesha is known as the remover of obstacles and he is prayed first in the beginning of any pooja or before the start of any auspicious work. He is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. He is one of the most widely worshipped Gods in Hinduism.
Ganesha’s elephant head is unique and attractive. He is an embodiment of wisdom and knowledge. Lord Ganesha is prayed in various forms like Vidya Ganapati for studies, Buddhi Ganapti for seeking knowledge, Siddhi Iswarya Ganati for seeking wealth, Sankata Nashana Ganapati for removing obstacles.
Ganesha wrote Mahabharata when Sage Veda Vyasa recited the epic. He broke one of his tusks and used it as a pen. Since then, Ganesha is depicted with one and half tusks.
Celebrations
Lord Ganesha is worshipped in various poojas and festivals.
Ganesh Chaturthi
It is an annual festival which falls in the lunar month of Bahadrapada masa, in the month of August or September. People install clay idols of Ganesha in their houses and huge idols are place in public places as well. This pooja is performed for ten days and on the tenth day, the idols are immersed in any of the water source.
This festival is celebrated all over India but in a big way in Maharashtra. Mostly youth participate in this communal festival and seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha in all their endeavours.
There are eight popular Ganesha shrines in Maharashtra in places like Siddhatek, Morgaon, Lenyadri, Theur, Mahad, Ranjangaon and Ozar.
Kundalini
As per Kundalini yoga, Lord Ganesha is depicted in the first chakra known as Muladhara chakra. It is the base chakra and Lord Ganesha is supposed to support all the beings for their survival..
Ganesha Homam: The pooja is performed with 1008 namavali japa and recitation of 1008 Ganesha moola mantra. Later a homam is held and the moolamantra is recited for 108 times. the homam ends with shanty mantras and purnahuti.

We perform the following Ganesh poojas:
1. Ganesh Pooja: This pooja is performed for general well being and prosperity. Shodasopachara poojas are performed with all the sacred pooja materials and the recitation of Ganesha namavali is done.
2. Ganapati Homam: Ganesh Pooja along with the Namavali Japa for 1008 times, recitation of Ganesha Moola Mantra and Homa are performed with the required pooja materials. 108 moolamantra recitation is done during the homam. It ends with shanty mantras and purnahuti. This pooja is done in your name and with your specific wish.
3. Maha Ganapati Homam: It is an elaborate pooja performed for Lord Ganesh in eight forms. Asta dravyas are used for the hoam.
